Although the ten days of lessons provide an assessment in the form of a test at the end of the unit, it may be helpful, especially for more artistic students, to have another way to represent their knowledge of the unit.
Therefore, as a final assessment for the unit, have students create an environment that includes both plants and animals. They must draw a picture or make a model of their environment including the plants and animals found there. They must write a paragraph to go along with their environment that describes the plants and animals living there, the things they need to survive and where they are found in the environment, and one classification that can be used to describe each plant and animal.
You can have students research and describe an existing environment or create one of their own. For younger students it may be easier for them to create one on their own since they have not yet developed researching skills.
To make the topic less vague you could also provide environments from which students can chose. Choices might include safari, wetlands, grasslands, rainforest etc.
