Day Seven - Animal Needs
Objectives:
Provide examples of animals' basic needs.
Demonstrate comprehension of what animals need.
Materials:
Needs of an Animal video (link below)
Colored paper
Scissors
Colored Pencils/Crayons/Markers
Lesson:
Quickly review from the previous day the things animals need to survive by watching Needs of an Animal video, making sure to remind kids that animals also need space.
Then have students create a foldable that represents the needs of animals. Make a foldable with five flaps. Have students write one need on each flap (air, food, water, shelter, and space). On the underside of each flap have students write one to two examples of this need (possible foods animals eat or forms of shelter-if they have trouble with examples of space allow them to write a brief sentence or so saying that animals must have space to move). On the other side of the inside portion of each flap have students draw a picture of an animal using each of these needs. This can be done horizontally or vertically dependent upon your preference. See the pictures below for an example.
Differentiation:
There is no real differentiation for this lesson.
Assessment:
The foldable can be used as an assessment to test students' comprehension of the needs of animals and ability to produce examples of each need.
Homework:
Quiz someone at home to see if they know what animals truly need to survive.
